Pasargad Solar Projects Ltd.” German-Iranian Company, in Collaboration with Kronos Solar Projects GmbH, an international player in large-scale solar energies, announces today the launch of the construction of the first phase of a new 100 MW solar power plant in Meybod.

The 10 MW power plant represents the first phase of the overall project in Meybod, with the second phase representing 90 MW, which will be co-located with the initial first phase of the project that has been developed with Parsia BDS, a Tehran-based business development company.

The plant will be equipped with high-efficiency photovoltaic modules which will include concentrating photovoltaic modules with a tracker system following the sun’s path. Unlike commonly used photovoltaic panels, lenses on the panels concentrate sun rays on high-performance cells, hence optimizing the use of the solar resource. The commissioning of the new plant is expected by Q1 2018.

A project in line with Kronos’s strategy and mission

The construction of this new power plant is in line with Kronos’s approach to make the most of the local energy resources. The selected site is located in an area with the heavy presence of manufacturing facilities and it has the mission to provide clean energy throughout the Meybod region.

“Our aim is to use local companies for both projects and create 1000s of new local jobs directly and indirectly in Meybod”, says Makan Yarandi, Managing Director of Pasargad Solar Projects.

Makan Yarandi continues by saying “we currently have a pipeline of nearly 500 MW in Iran and this first project of 10 MW is full-equity, while the second phase of the project (90 MW) is in the process of securing financing and we anticipate to commence with construction for the second phase by the end of 2018.

According to the Iran’s 6th five-year development plan, Iran has had the green-light and the target of generating over 5,000 MW of renewable energies with 20 years power purchase agreement and many other advantages, the 10 MW Solar Complex with an investment of $12 million is a part of our activities in the Iran’s renewable energy market in line with attracting foreign investments” says Amir Eslamnezhad, Managing Director at Parsia Business Development Solutions.
